Dear friends and family, Mio and Mat.
Thank you for the kind invitation for me to say a few words here.
It is a great pleasure to come and celebrate this wonderful milestone in Mio and Mat’s life.
I am Mio’s little auntie Lee from Taiwan. I also see in the guest table uncle Chris and His family, Kevin and Natalie, Johnny and Adriane, auntie Wendy, David Diana Nathan Alex, Janet and Sam. Gene and Jay. Adele, Cassie Oscar, Rich and Fay,
Great to see you here. They are from New York, Canada, Taiwan, Northern California. Thank you Mat, your proposal to Mio made the family reunion possible
The following could be a bit nostalgic. Thinking back to the times I held Mio in my arms when her mom and dad first brought her
back from the hospital. It had been a difficult pregnancy for her mom. and how I had bottle fed her soon after she was born. The time when she learned to walk and talk. She brought such joy to her parents and my parents, too.
I remember how Mio, my brother and the twins were so closely bonded over the years as new immigrants to California.
These all seem not too long ago, and I am so very happy to see her as the beautiful bride today moving off on to the next phase of her life.
Let me tell you a bit more about Mio, Mio learned to recite her first Chinese poem at the tender age 17 month old. The 韓愈祭鱷魚文。
it was an article written by a kind poet a thousand years ago to ask an alligator to stop hurting village people.
The poem was so difficult, I have not met anyone else who can accurately recite them. .
it is only a hundred word’s short, which I think hides holds some deep teaching my mom found for us to digest years later.
Talk about words, now I would like to, hereby, share with Mio and Mat some treasured words given to me years ago by my parents, Mios grand parents who loved her dearly since day one.

These words has been a wonderful advice bestowed on me, words drawn from lessons learned and earned which transcended into the solid foundation for my parents over 60 years happily married life,
it is about 義正辭婉 理直氣和。about settling the differences between people with kindness.
1. No matter how right you are in alll matters, Mio and Mat. Choose your words filled with kindness to say to each other. But then, Mio is always right.
In case you wondered, the tough negotiation between the poet and the alligator worked out fine.
2. No matter how strong your reasons or opinions are in any matter, stay cool, remember the goal is never about having a blood bath with the alligator. But about the goal to save the people in the village or to save the day. Wow, let’s make it a Disney movie.
3. The eight words Mio’s grandparents gave me, 義正辭婉 理直氣和, I believe, will continue on to bring peace and joy in your daily life and in your career.
4. Be brave and be happy. Life has many funny twists and turns. Just Try to laugh at the challenges and say come try me. No matter the result, it is the process of your efforts together that will be treasured the most.
Lastly I would like to now share my mother’s favorite toast with you, the one that she uses during all happy gatherings: 健康快樂。
